The Community Mutual Group answers your questions on Credit Card Fraud
Many of our members may have seen recent press coverage of card fraud with Australians’ card numbers being stolen and sold to overseas fraudsters, who then make false cards using those card numbers. These false cards are then used overseas in non-PIN based transactions, usually in Department Stores to purchase items which can be easily sold. Several arrests have been made by Police recently and hopefully this will stem such frauds.
Does this affect me?
Community Mutual has been made aware by authorities that some of our members’ cards may have been compromised when they have shopped at particular retail outlets and have used certain EFTPOS terminals. In these cases, we are contacting all those members directly and promptly and replacing those cards at no cost to our members.
We are also then blocking all overseas, non-PIN based transactions on the affected cards to protect our Members accounts.
Does this affect my whole account?
No, it is only your card number that has been compromised, therefore once we cancel your card and list your card number on the Card Recovery Bulletin with Visa, a new card can be ordered and you are able to continue using your account as normal.
Am I liable for spending?
It is important to remember that, as members have not contributed to these losses, they will not be liable for them.
