Beware of Telephone Scams

It has recently been brought to our attention that a number of telephone scams have been targeting the finance industry. The Australian Bankers Association (ABA) have issued a media release advising of fraudsters telephoning bank customers, claiming they are entitled to exception fee refunds as part of the proposed fees class action against banks. The purpose of such phone scams is to trick consumers into revealing their account number or credit card details, which can later be used to remove money from the affected person's accounts.

In what seems to a separate scam, a number of members have received calls from individuals that claim they are conducting 'market research'. These fraudsters are requesting, amongst other details, information regarding where people bank. It is important to note that CMG will not ask you to provide your banking details in an outgoing phone call. The only time we will request your account details is for verification purposes when you have contacted The Community Mutual Group. In the event you do receive a suspicious call, it is advised to not give out any information and to get in contact with us on 132 067 or email enquiries@communitymutual.com.au to notify of the call.
